Middle
School Summer Science Mentoring Program
July 10-25, 2003
The WISE Middle School summer program began as a National Science
Foundation and BOCES supported initiative four years ago and continues
through the efforts of the WISE program at SUNY Stony Brook. The program
mission continues to focus on increasing and sustaining the interest
of young women in science, math, engineering, and technology through
the leadership of SUNY mentors.
Forty students will be paired with ten SUNY
undergraduate and graduate students who will serve as mentors and
lead group activities for the 2003 summer program.
WISE offers young women the opportunity to
experience a small, closely knit, academic community that helps them
become more independent and self-reliant, while engaging in hands-on,
scientific studies.
The cost of the program is $650 (includes daily
lunch and all lab fees). Deadline for applications is
May 30, 2003; we will accept a maximum
of 40 students. Students should currently be enrolled in 5th to 9th
grade.
Transportation to and from the university each
day must be arranged by the student's parent or guardian. The program
runs rain or shine beginning at 9 AM and ending at 3 PM.
The State University of New York is an affirmative
action/equal opportunity educator and employer.
Please complete an application (see
