Scholars for Medicine
This program is only for those applying for fall freshman admission.
The Scholars for Medicine Program is an integrated eight year B.A./M.D.
course of study offered to exceptional high school students. While completing
undergraduate studies, students participate in medical school classes
and activities. Admission to the medical school is contingent upon achieving
a minimum G.P.A. of 3.4, and above average MCAT scores.
To be considered for the Scholars for Medicine program, you need:
- A minimum GPA of 95 (or 3.8)
- Combined SAT Math and Critical Reading score of 1350 or higher. (Applicants are strongly advised to provide SAT scores instead of ACT scores when applying for the Scholars for Medicine Program.)
- Essay specifically for the Scholars for Medicine option.
- Complete application for admission to Stony Brook University as a freshman for the fall semester by December 1, submitting all supporting documentation, including high school transcript, SAT/ACT scores, two Teacher Evaluations, and the Supplemental Application (including essays) by December 31.
- Documentation of US citizenship or permanent residency
Applicants to Scholars for Medicine are notified in March whether they have been admitted to WISE and, if so, whether or not they have been recommended for review by the School of Medicine at Stony Brook University. If recommended for review by the School of Medicine, they will be notified within a couple of weeks whether or not they will be offered an interview. Final decisions are usually made prior to April 1.
Students who have been accepted into the WISE Scholars for Medicine
Initiative are guaranteed a seat in the School of Medicine at Stony
Brook University upon graduation provided they fulfill the following
requirements:
- Complete the WISE Program
- Complete all requirement pre-medical courses
- Maintain a minimum 3.4 GPA
- Successfully complete and attain a cumulative MCAT score comparable
to the national average of medical school matriculates
